Nobel Women's Initiative to host Burma and the Media event
On September 16, the Nobel Women's Initiative and the Paley Center for Media will host "Burma and the Media: Amplifying Voices for Democracy" in New York City.
This panel discussion--featuring Nobel Laureates, Burmese and international journalists, documentary filmmakers and Paley Center President and CEO Pat Mitchell--will examine how global and social media are transforming Burma's democracy movement.

A group of 50 women from around the world--including international law experts and women's rights activists from countries with armed conflict--came together in Mexico April 20-21 for the first time-ever to identify the key elements of a global strategy for strengthening justice for women."We are here to give voice to the desire for justice and the need for accountability for countless acts of violence against women around the world," said Brigid Inder, the Executive Director of the Women's Initiative for Gender Justice. "There will be no lasting peace until women have justice--and no longer have to suffer from rape and other gender-based crimes sanctioned by leaders of their own countries."

The volcano in Iceland which has grounded flights throughout Europe has provided the International Gender Justice Dialogue with unforeseen challenges. Contingency plans had been developed for almost every imaginable scenario, yet the disruption caused by volcanic ash was not one that we had imagined.

From April 19 to 21, women's rights advocates, gender experts, legal practitioners and others spoke out for gender justice at the International Gender Justice Dialogue in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Convened by Women's Initiatives for Gender Justice and the Nobel Women's Initiative, the Dialogue focused on finding ways to strengthen accountability for gender-based crimes through mechanisms such as the ICC, as well as through influencing peace negotiations and their outcomes.

Read more »Nobel Peace Laureates to Host Women's Tribunal on Burma
Under the leadership of women Nobel Peace Prize Laureates and our partner organization, the Women's League of Burma, the Nobel Women's Initiative is planning an International Tribunal on Crimes Against Women in Burma. 
The Tribunal will take place in New York City on March 2, 2010 and will coincide with the United Nations' Commission on the Status of Women meeting. Eminent Judges (including Nobel Peace Laureates) will hear personal testimony from several women of Burma who will share their personal stories of having lived through a range of human rights violations under the military regime in Burma.

Day 15 of 16 Days of Activism: Spotlighting Molly Malekar
Meet Molly Malekar. Molly has been involved with Bat Shalom, Israeli Women's Venture for Peace since 1995. She is part of the spokespersons' team for the Women's Coalition for Just Peace, and previously served as a project coordinator for the Sikkuy Association for the Advancement of Civil Society in Israel.
